Bill Stewart - President

Bill Stewart

 

Bill is President and Director of Development for Mass AREA. He is also the founder of William Stewart & Associates a grass roots public and government affairs consulting firm. Bill has over 30 years experience in implementing and executing intensive statewide grass roots campaigns by building and maintaining coalitions with statewide elected official, civic leaders, trade organizations and labor groups.

 

Prior to joining Mass AREA bill was an executive assistant to the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He also worked for 22 years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives where he held a number of roles including staff director for both the Committee on Government Regulations and the Committee on Bills in Third Reading. Bill has extensive experience in gaming and public utility matters as well as the legislative and regulatory process and is an expert on ballot law, referendum and election matters.

Joyce McMahon

Joyce McMahon is a communications consultant with more than 20 years experience, including 14 years in the energy industry.

Since January 2006, Joyce has served as the director of communications for the Massachusetts Affordable Reliable Electricity Alliance. A registered lobbyist, Joyce serves as the organization's spokesperson and has provided written and verbal testimony before the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Atomic Safety Licensing Board, the US Mineral Management Services, and the MA Energy Facilities Siting Board. She has also spoken before a number of business and community forums to gain support for Mass AREA member projects, as well as participated in print, radio and TV interviews and editorial board meetings.

 

Joyce’s energy experience began in 1995 at the MA Division of Energy Resources (DOER) where she spent nearly five years as DOER's Officer/Director of Public Information. While there, Joyce ran communication's campaigns about changes in the electric utility industry, renewable energy, transportation alternatives and energy efficiency. Joyce also managed crisis communications during energy emergencies for the Office of the Governor.

 

Ms. McMahon’s other energy experience includes serving as Communications Director for the Cleantech InnoVenture Center (incubator for start-ups in the clean and green energy industries); TerraVerdae BioWorks (methane and methanol used to create value products); the Northeast Regional ENERGY STAR Initiative; Duggan Atlas Van Lines (first hybrid moving truck); HouseNeeds (home energy efficiency); ISO New England (regional grid operator); and Dennis K. Burke Oil (biodiesel).
